Maintenance (cars)

1. Fluid Levels (Under the Bonnet)

  • Oil level: You check this using a dipstick. Without enough oil, the engine will create too much friction and destroy itself.

  • Coolant level: This liquid flows around the engine to absorb heat. If the level is too low, the engine will overheat.

  • Windscreen washer fluid: (This is the correct term for your "mixture of windshield wipers"). It is a mixture of water and antifreeze or cleaning chemicals used to keep the windscreen clear.

2. Wheels and Tyres

  • Tyre pressure: You must check if the pressure matches the manufacturer's manual.

  • Overinflated (Overpressured) tyres: If there is too much air, the tyre wears out unevenly in the centre and the car has less grip on the road.

  • Underinflated tyres: If there is not enough air, the car consumes more fuel and the tyre wears out on the edges.

3. Engine Maintenance

  • Air filter: It prevents dust and dirt from entering the engine. If it gets clogged, the engine cannot "breathe" properly and loses performance.

  • Spark plug condition: Over time, spark plugs get dirty or worn out. If they are in bad condition, the combustion (expansion) stroke will misfire or the car will not start at all.

4. Exterior Safety

  • Lights: You should regularly check if all exterior lights are working. This includes headlights, indicators (blinkers), brake lights, and reverse lights.

How to use this at the exam:

You can easily link this to the 4-stroke engine topic. Start by explaining how the engine works, and then say: "To keep this engine running smoothly, you need to do regular maintenance..." and just list these four categories. It sounds highly professional and easily fills up the required speaking time.
