Environmental Protection

1. The Global Crisis (The Big Picture)

  • The Reality: Environmental protection is the biggest problem of our generation because we have nowhere to escape.

  • Climate Change: Driven heavily by the greenhouse effect.

  • The Consequences: The melting ice is affecting ocean currents like the Gulf Stream. This causes extreme weather and natural disasters. For example, there were almost no major floodings in our country before 1995, but now they are common.

2. The Economic Trap (Your strongest point)

This is an advanced argument that will get you a lot of points.

  • Offshoring: To lower expenses, western countries offloaded and moved their factories and production to China, India, Pakistan, and parts of Africa.

  • E-commerce: The massive rise of online shopping means we are constantly shipping goods across the planet. Massive cargo ships cause huge pollution.

  • The Paradox: We blame developing countries for pollution, but it is partly the consequence of our own actions. By buying cheap things from China, we are directly paying for environmental degradation.

3. Bleak Predictions for the Future

Just fire off these key sentences exactly as you have them:

  • The climate will continue to change, and the weather will get hotter and drier.

  • Millions of people in third-world countries won't have any food or clean water.

  • Cities will get bigger and more crowded.

  • Many plants and animals won't survive.

  • We won't have enough energy to sustain our current lifestyle.

4. Everyday Solutions (What can we do?)

  • Energy & Water: Save energy! Switch off the lights when you leave a room. Don't waste water.

  • Transport: Don't pollute the air. Cycle to work or use public transport instead of driving.

  • Waste: Recycle your cans, paper, and bottles. Protect nature and always take your litter home.

5. The IT Connection (Exam time-killer)

If you need to speak for another minute, bring it back to your specialization:

  • E-waste (Electronic Waste): We throw away phones and computers every few years. The heavy metals and batteries are highly toxic to the environment.

  • Energy Consumption: The internet is not invisible. Data centres and servers (like the ones you configure) require massive amounts of electricity, especially for cooling.

Speaking Strategy for the Exam:

Start strong: "Environmental protection is the biggest problem of our generation. We literally have nowhere to escape." Then, move straight into the economic argument about moving factories to China and cargo ships. That alone shows critical thinking. Finish off by listing the future predictions and how individuals can help.
